Compliance testing for UN Dangerous Goods
STERIS and the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI) have partnered to provide a UN certification service for packaging of dangerous goods and hazardous materials.
STERIS is ISO 17025 accredited and our technical advisors are proficient in interpreting UN regulations on package testing for dangerous goods. We consult with and advise our Customers on how to test and certify their packaging.

Group classifications:
- Group I (X) – substances presenting high danger
- Group II (Y) – substances presenting medium danger
- Group III (Z) – substances presenting low danger
Substance classification:
- 3 – Flammable liquids
- 4: 1-3 – Flammable solids, substances liable to spontaneous combustion; substances which, on contact with water, emit flammable gases
- 5: 1 – Oxidizing substances and organic peroxides
- 6: 1 – Toxic substances
- 8 – Corrosive substances
- 9 – Miscellaneous dangerous substances and articles
