What is Catheter Dynamics Performance Testing?

Catheter dynamics performance testing simulates the anatomical pathway that a device follows when in-vivo. The following series of tests are included:

Catheter Push

  • This test is designed to ascertain the efficiency of the catheter in terms of transmitting force from the proximal end of the shaft to the distal end
  • Test performed in accordance with STERIS- or Customer-defined requirements

Catheter Track

  • This test measures the ability of the catheter to travel through the tortuous path/anatomy of the vessel being navigated by the catheter
  • Test performed in accordance with STERIS- or Customer-defined requirements

Catheter Cross

  • This test measures the ability of the catheter distal section to cross a lesion or restriction, after tracking through a ‘standard’ anatomy (anatomy can be Customer defined)
  • Test performed in accordance with STERIS- or Customer-defined requirements.

Wire Movement

  • This test provides an indication of the interaction between the catheter and the guide wire as the catheter travels along the tortuous path
  • Test performed in accordance with STERIS- or Customer-defined requirements.

Wire Torsion

  • This test provides a measure of the responsiveness of the wire as the user attempts to steer it along the tortuous path
  • Test performed in accordance with STERIS- or Customer-defined requirements.
