What is Burst Testing?
The burst test is performed by pressurizing the package until it bursts. The results for burst testing include the burst pressure data and a description of where the seal failure occurred.
There are several burst types that can be carried out per the ASTM standards (ASTM F1140, ASTM F2054) including dynamic/static burst, creep test, and creep to fail. These burst tests can be carried out either on open or closed packages, using either unrestrained or restrained methods.
Why Perform Burst Testing?
- Burst testing is used to measure and quantify the strength of medical device package sterile barrier systems, as well as other sealed flexible packages
- Burst testing is used to determine the package’s weakest point
