STERIS announces new medical device testing facility in leipzig, germany

• Supports medical device manufacturing with additional packaging and microbiological testing capabilities

 September 2022 – As part of our long-term commitment to supporting medical device manufacturing, STERIS is pleased to announce plans for the construction of a new testing facility in Leipzig, Germany.

This new location will offer packaging testing services, including accelerated and real-time aging, transportation, and integrity testing, and microbiological testing capacity in partnership with the existing laboratory in Radeberg. The Leipzig testing services offering will complement the existing packaging testing services offered in Galway, Ireland and Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

This investment furthers our commitment to supporting medical device manufacturers throughout all stages of the sterilization design process. As a critical piece of new product development, this offering ensures that medical devices meet industry requirements for sterile claim and product functionality. These services are also an important consideration when converting product from one sterilization technology to another, confirming product and packaging compatibility with the new technology.

In conjunction with the microbial validation services offered by STERIS, the product and packaging testing services provide a comprehensive portfolio of testing options for the validation of sterile medical devices. Product release to market is further supported by the STERIS AST global network of contract sterilization facilities and laboratories.

The expansion of services in Germany furthers our commitment of ensuring patient safety through a technology-neutral service offering that includes radiation processing and testing options, now and well into the future. In addition to the new testing facility in Leipzig, we support medical device manufacturing and testing in Germany through our existing electron beam, gamma, and microbiological testing services in Allershausen, Bitterfeld, and Radeberg.
